Board of Directors

Each member of the Board of Directors has significant summer camp industry experience.

Jay Haddad

President

Jay Haddad has spent forty-nine summers in private, government and agency camps: Kilcoo, Ontario Camp Leadership Centre, Bark Lake and Bellaleo. For the past nine years, he has been the Senior Director/Owner of Camp Nokomis. Jay was on the Board of the Canadian Camping Association (CCA) and editor of Canadian Camping Magazine. He received CCA’s Award of Honour. Jay is a Past President of the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and an Honorary Life Member of the OCA . He is a Past President of the Society of Camp Directors (which dissolved in 2019 by a vote of the members).

Jocelyn Palm

Treasurer

Jocelyn has been the Owner and Director of Glen Bernard Camp (GBC) since 1977. Jocelyn joined GBC as a staff member following fifteen years as a camper and counsellor in Quebec. Jocelyn was the National Director of the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada for 15 years. She is a past President of both the Canadian Camping Association and the Ontario Camps Association (OCA), and has received OCA’s highest awards, the Dorothy Walter Award of Excellence and the Legacy Award. Joc, together with Kids in Camp Past President Larry Bell, received the Legacy Award in its inaugural year, 2020. Jocelyn was awarded Canada’s highest civilian honour, The Order of Canada for her work in youth development, women’s health and environmental stewardship.

Jack Goodman

Vice President

Jack Goodman has been the Owner and Director of Camp New Moon since 1994. He has worked in various capacities in children’s camps since 1975. He is a former Board Member of the Ontario Camps Association, and prior to that was a Member of its Standards Committee. He was also a member of the Society of Camp Directors (which dissolved in 2019 by a vote of the members). and has been a Professor at the University of Toronto since 1988.

Patti Thom

Director

Patti Thom has been a Director of Camp Tanamakoon since 1984. She is a former Board Member of the Canadian Camping Association (CCA), the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and the Society of Camp Directors (which dissolved in 2019 by a vote of the members). Patti is the recipient of CCA’s Jack Pearse Award of Honour and Award of Excellence, OCA’s Dorothy Walter Award of Excellence and is an Honorary Life Member of the OCA.

Catherine Ross

Secretary

Catherine Ross is a Past President of the Society of Camp Directors (which dissolved in 2019 by a vote of the members), a former Board Member of the Canadian Camping Association (CCA) and the Ontario Camps Association (OCA), and an Honorary Life Member of the OCA. She is the recipient of CCA’s highest volunteer award, the Ron Johnstone Lifetime Achievement Award and OCA’s highest volunteer award, the Dorothy Walter Award of Excellence. After 25 years at Camp Tanamakoon as a camper and on staff, Catherine and her husband George owned and directed Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da for girls from 1979-1998. She is currently an Honorary Director of Camp Wenonah. Catherine is the former editor of both the CCA and OCA newsletters and has published seven books, several children’s stories and countless articles on camping.

Liz Greenway

Director

Liz Greenway has been the Manager of Camping and Outdoor Education for YWCA Toronto’s Camp Tapawingo since 1979. She is a Past President of the Ontario Camps Association and a former Executive Member of the Canadian Camping Association. She was a member of the Society of Camp Directors. (which dissolved in 2019 by a vote of the members). Liz is a recipient of CCA’s Award of Excellence and OCA’s Dorothy Walter Award of Excellence and an Honorary Life Member of the OCA.

Markus O’Brien Fehr

Director

Markus O’Brien Fehr is a community organizer and strategist based in North York where he has taken leadership roles on political campaigns at all levels of government. Most recently he served as Executive Assistant to Toronto City Councillor John Filion while volunteering as a director on a local condo board, child care centre, electoral district association and school advisory council. Previously, Markus spent 15 years as part of the leadership team at Camp Manitou and worked with several Ontario Camp’s Association (OCA) volunteer committees. His work has been recognized with the OCA’s Ron & Mickey Johnstone Youth Leadership Award and the Canada 150 Medal for community contribution.

Craig Perlmutter

Director

From 2002-2019, Craig Perlmutter was one of the owners/operators of Camp Tamakwa, an overnight summer camp in Algonquin Park, Ontario. This experience left him with a pride and passion for the entire summer camp industry. As Vice President and Board Member of the Ontario Camps Association, Craig gained exceptional insight from other summer camp leaders from both private and not-for-profit camps. Craig strongly believes that the summer camp experience, however long or short, can be crucial to one’s growth, maturity, self-confidence, and socialization.
Craig is excited to work alongside other Kids in Camp Board members to help provide an equal opportunity for more children to experience a safe and fulfilling camp experience.

Larry Bell

Past President

Larry is the former Owner/Director of Camp Robin Hood and is at present, Director Emeritus. He remains an active member of the camping community. Larry is a Past President of the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and an Honorary Life Member of the OCA. He has received the OCA’s highest awards, the Dorothy Walter Award of Excellence and the Legacy Award. Larry, together with Kids in Camp Director and Treasurer Jocelyn Palm, received the Legacy Award in its inaugural year, 2020. Larry has served on the Board of the Canadian Camping Association (CCA) and was a member of the CCA Insurance Committee beginning with its inception until 2022. He has received CCA’s highest honour, The Ron Johnstone Lifetime Achievement Award. Larry was a Treasurer, Board Member, and Fellow of the Society of Camp Directors (which dissolved in 2019 by a vote of the members). He has also held positions on the Boards of the John Howard Society and Operation Springboard.
